“Belial” seemed a touch too religious, being connected to the Hebrew tradition. Also, it meant either evil or worthless : wouldn’t want to insult him. That made me stop and think about Lilith, but she was just a human minion, having been mated to Adam, and I wanted to go to the top dog.

“Adversary,” too, seemed to hearken back to some books in the Torah. It actually placed him as against Mankind, while still serving God.

The rest, however, were closer to how I imagined Satan.

“Lord of Abaddon” gave him a lofty-sounding title.
